I have to admit that I wrote my comment...Aussie J,

I have to admit that I wrote my comment immediately after reading several blogs of SBC pastors and leaders where the disgust I felt may have spilled over into my own comment. Then again, maybe it was the straw that pierced the thin-layer that contained them.

Whichever..I really do "feel" what I shared and it's obvious to me you have experience in that and I'm encouraged with the heart you've demonstrated while coming through it.

May I learn from what I see in your words and I sincerely mean that.

Rex,

There have been times I disagreed with "what" or sometimes even "how" you've said things. I said so and you've received it whether you agreed with my assessment or not.

Well, it is only fair of me to say that I both AGREE with this comment and I like HOW you said it.

So much so I think a part of it needs to be said again. You said...

"I believe once the glue that held Baptists together was missions, but now the glue has been changed to doctrine.'

"Many wars have been fought over doctrine. I’m not saying doctrine is not important, but when it became the focal point by legalists…well, we see the result."

Thanks for those words.Paul Burlesonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17021178307705707423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28605099.post-56713755101271552312010-04-13T06:01:36.773-05:002010-04-13T06:01:36.773-05:00Paul,
The SBC churches in our county are about eve...Paul,
The SBC churches in our county are about evenly divided between the BGCT and the SBTC.

I believe through the influence of your son’s blog, our pastor who was once an officer in the new convention of Virginia said unless the leadership changes in the SBC; it will die a slow death. I agree with him.

I believe once the glue that held Baptists together was missions, but now the glue has been changed to doctrine.

Many wars have been fought over doctrine. Thanks for a great reminder of what God'...Paul,

Thanks for a great reminder of what God's grace is all about.

It seems to me that there is a real philosophical/religious connection between the "things ARE WRONG" on your side of the world and the "things ARE WRONG" down under. Even the timeline is the same.

Your words "ashamed" and "embarrassed" were once my own experience.Aussie Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16199918171163666399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28605099.post-54725580745654038212010-04-12T13:31:40.820-05:002010-04-12T13:31:40.820-05:00Bob,

But this is really a different for me.

I've NEVER thought the SBC was God's best tool necessarily, but I wasn't ashamed of it. I wasn't embarrassed by it. Things started changing twenty-five years ago and are really different now it seems to me.

I'm not saying there were no problems before the inerrancy movement and I'm not saying the Conservative movement is ALL the cause of what's wrong. But things ARE WRONG and there doesn't seem to be any leaders to bring us out of it all. That was one of the first, of what's now a pretty fair list.

The GCRTF was the capper.Bob Clevelandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06110395869562328309noreply@blogger.com
